Flo Milli - In The Party (Vevo Ctrl) At 20-years-old, Flo Milli is a bright star coming outta hip-hop’s incessant churn of new talent. Her breakout hit, “Beef FloMix,” is three and a half minutes of pure braggadocio. In fact, in all of her songs, the Alabama rapper paints a world where her haters get smoked like the weed she loves. But damn, if that flow isn’t catchy as hell. Like many of her contemporaries, much of her identity exists in the digital mélange. “Beef FloMix” deftly reworks a Playboi Carti beat, and part of her sound boasts a Young Thug influence mixed with Erykah Badu and Jill Scott - the latter courtesy of Flo’s mom’s R&B tastes. That’s balanced with love for Nicki Minaj, who the MC claims as her initial inspiration. Check how this parade of influences are ingeniously filtered in the Ctrl performances of “In the Party” and “My Attitude.” As she says, that’s that Flo Milli shit.
