It’s looking like the use of personal pronouns for your R&B project is becoming a smart move. And while, unlike H.E.R., there might not be a Grammy up on the shelf (yet) at the THEY. residence, the Cali duo seems to have the requisite skills. 2017’s ‘Nü Religion - Hyena’ debut revealed a yen to bend neo-soul in novel directions, not unlike The Weeknd, Frank Ocean or Bryson Tiller. ‘The Amanda Tape’ revels in well-considered textures and grooves. Plus, Dante Jones, the duo's producer, brings out the best in singer Drew Love and others. “Play Fight," finds Tinashe in peak form - sun-baked and fetching. Their “On and On” performance features a 00’s pop punk vibe, a sub-genre the band considers most-influential. It’s easy to like them - I mean THEY.
