It was brusque but vulnerable, sleek but gritty. Lewis Capaldi was responsible for it, and all those who heard the overwhelming emotion at its center wanted more. The Scottish newcomer, who was one of Vevo's Artists To Watch 2018, has had plenty of fans turning his way since then, and each new song he writes and records carries a similar clout emotionally. As a kid, Capaldi was a fan of Paolo Nuntini, and when he first began to sing, he tried to parallel the heft of Joe Cocker's mighty rasp.
