Gracie Abrams knows how to captivate an audience, in the most modern sense. Without ever having played a proper live gig, the L.A. native has cultivated an adoring online fan base. On one hand, the 21-year-old’s discography is a landscape of fiercely emotional lyrics wrapped inside gentle songs. So gentle, she lowers her voice to barely a whisper on “minor,” which she wrote when she was 17 and now serves as the title track to her debut EP. On the other hand, her 300k Insta followers get an equally real product: a blend of normie selfies, cute Spongebob memes and worries about the existential crises marking 2020's daily life. None of this is to say Abrams lacks performance chops. Plans for a summer tour were derailed due to you know what.
